Week 10: Nov 13 - 17 Objectives Activities Tuesday Thursday

Objectives

By the end of this week students will have:

• analyzed different letters to the editors in online magazines
• written a letter to the editor of an online e-zine
• discussed the question: Can a metaverse improve architectural /urban planning design?
• watched a video podcast
• taken notes on the video podcast
• written a collaborative summary about the content of the video
• taken a quiz about the video content.

Activities

Tuesday

1. Re-read the articles below, analyze what you agree and disagree with in one of them, and write a letter to the editor or author of the article.

a. From atelier to e-telier: virtual design studios
b. Virtual|Reality and digital modeling go on trial for a federal courtroom design

2. In order to write the letter, you should analyze how this kind of letters are written, by reading some examples. Pay attention to the structure of the letter, and the kind of language used. You can visit these 2 sites:

• Architecture Week: http://arch.designcommunity.com/ (forum)

You can select to write a message to a forum or a letter to the editor. The writing style will be different for each.

3. Post your letter to Moodle, week 10, in the Letter to the Editor forum.

4. Finally, you are going to discuss, with your classmates, the question that originated this unit: Can a metaverse contribute to architectural and urban planning desing?

Thursday

Previewing activities:

1. What do you know about Singapore? Where is it located? How is its urban planning? Its architecture?

2. Learn or review some of the vocabulary used in the video:

• Word Search

While-viewing activities

1. Watch the video once. (if you have problems, click on the link: view in Google).

2. Watch it a second time. This time take notes about the content.

Post-viewing activities

1. Get in a chat (at Yahoo Messenger) with a classmate, and share your notes. Try to gather as much information as you can. You can go to Internet to find more information about the content discussed. Save the chatlog

2. Post the chatlog to the Chat about video forum in Moodle, week 10.

3. Write a collaborative summary of the video with your classmate. Post the summary to the Collaborative Summary forum in Moodle, week 10.

4. Record your summary in Springdoo. Post the link to the recording in the same forum where you posted your collaborative summary.

5. Take the quiz about the video (vocabulary and content)- Available in Moodle, week 10.
